Promotion and House Closure

It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything. Wanted to give an update that on Friday, August 4th, I got news that I've been promoted to the next position at Uber. I am now a Systems Engineer II on the Corp Site Reliability Engineering team. This is my 2 years and 2 months at Uber and can't be happier. It's been quite the journey and every day is an adventure. Something that I am so ecstatic about. I would like to thank everyone for all of the support you've given me throughout the years. I wouldn't have done it without you. Today, the third house we put an offer on has closed. My wife and I are now homeowners,…

We Bought a House!

I never thought I'd be saying this at 30 years old in the San Francisco Bay area, but I bought a house with my wife. It wasn't too hard, but there are a lot of things I've learned and I now see the stress that occurs when trying to buy. On July 3rd, 2017, we put an offer on our first house. It was a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath house with a hot tub in the backyard. We fell in love with it, so it was something we had to put an offer on. This was the first time I ever put an offer on a house, so doing it was scary, knowing how much the houses are in…

The Adventures of Buying a House

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so thinking about buying a house is not so much a common thing. Why? The housing prices in this area are actually the most expensive in the country. When I found out that Silicon Valley was more than Beverly Hills, that really surprised me. I've always wanted to buy a house and has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I want to have a family, and being married to my best friend is the first step. In my vision, I would like to purchase something that I worked hard for; something that I can have that will keep my family safe and secure. Since the area I live…

It's Definitely Summer Now

Well it's 97 today where I live. Thank god for the air conditioning. It's expected to be 104 tomorrow. Not liking that one bit. Anything over 80-85 is just too much. You'd think going to the city (San Francisco) would help cool things off a bit, but nope. Yesterday during my lunch break, I walked with one of my work buddies down to the San Francisco ferry pier. I just wanted to get some nice cool air. There was nothing cool about it. It was the warmest weather I've experienced in San Francisco. Well, let's get to some other stuff. Today I'm working on my performance review for work. This time, mine is a little bit different because I am…

How to make Windows USB flash install media from Linux

I've already shared how to do this on my forum, but thought it would be beneficial to share it here as well, since many not view the forum. After trying many ways of creating a bootable flash drive for installing Windows shown online, I successfully found a method that actually works. Requirements: Gparted sudo apt-get install gparted USB flash drive Instructions: Insert the USB flash drive, then open gparted. In the upper right corner of gparted, click on the dropdown menu and select the USB drive. Note the filesystem. In this example, lets assume it is /dev/sdf In the main window in gparted, delete all of the partitions and format the drive as NTFS. After formatting, right-click the drive…
